It was the election result that no-one saw coming. Or did they? It has been a week since Donald Trump was elected President of the United States *shudders* and ever since, the Internet has latched onto any tell-tale signs of the surprise election result. So who really predicted the former Apprentice star would one day be the “Leader of the Free World”?
1. “The Simpsons”
Eagle-eyed fans of “The Simpsons” were quick to point out that in an episode originally aired back in 2000, a Trump presidency is hinted at. “Bart to the Future” shows us a future in which Lisa Simpson is now “America’s first straight, female president”. But who preceded her? None other than Donald Trump. Lisa tells her advisers that “As you know, we’ve inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump,” which is now entirely possible in the political climate. Writers of the show say that the Trump presidency was meant as “a warning to America.” Here’s hoping that in four years’ time, we have a Lisa-esque equivalent to save us.
Nostradamus, a French seer from the 16th century is also reported to have predicted Trump’s presidency, despite being dead for over four hundred years. The prophet apparently wrote of ““The great shameless, audacious bawler (sound familiar?). He will be elected governor of the army (i.e. The United States)”” And if that wasn’t scary enough, in a separate quotation, Nostradamus potentially calls this figure the “third antichrist” after Napoleon and Hitler, and according to his writings the third antichrist will be the one who triggers the Apocalypse. Uh-oh.
3. Baba Vanga
This Bulgarian psychic has often been dubbed the “Nostradamus from the Balkans” due to her apparent 85% success rate among her predictions. While her predictions do not directly reference Trump, Baba Vanga prophesied that the 44th US president would be African American and that he would be “the last one”. She has supposedly also said that ‘Everyone will put their hopes in him (Obama) to end it, but the opposite will happen; he will bring the country down and conflicts between north and south states will escalate.” Sceptical? Have look at the 2016 election map.
4. Michael Moore
While many thought that the US filmmaker was scaremongering with his essay entitled “5 Reasons Why Trump Will Win” Michael Moore was scarily accurate with his predictions. Moore notably predicted that Trump would focus much of his attention on the four blue states in the rustbelt of the upper Great Lakes and would play into traditional white male power mind-sets, all of which Trump did. However, the one positive to take from Moore’s prediction is that he doesn’t think that Trump will last the full four years. Finally, some good news.
