Cecilian’s Zombie Prom

Zombie Prom Final A3September is always such an exciting time on campus and with new students arriving there is always a buzz of activity before the hard work for the semester begins. This year, the Cecilian Society have lots of events planned for the first few weeks of term and we are looking forward to welcoming lots of new members into our ranks!

The Cecilian Society is the university’s foremost musical theatre society. Each year we perform two musicals – the first in September and then our main show in February – and pride ourselves on our ability to stage entertaining and professional performances with an open chorus policy that means all are welcome to participate.
Our annual Weekend Show – “Zombie Prom” – began on Thursday 25th September. The Weekend Show is a Cecilian tradition that involves casting, rehearsing and staging a performance all within a weekend – leaving us only 24 hours of rehearsal time! This intensive, fun experience is a perfect way for new members to throw themselves into the society and getting to know their fellow cast members.
“Zombie Prom” is a hilarious, fun musical that’s often described as a cross between “Grease”and “Little Shop of Horrors”. This high school comedy set in the 1950’s follows Jonny and Toffee who are your typical high school sweethearts, that is until Jonny commits suicide in a nuclear power plant and comes back as a zombie! The pair must navigate all the highs and lows of life at Enrico Fermi High School whilst coming to terms with Jonny’s situation, and with lots of singing and dancing along the way.
If you are interested in taking part in the Weekend Show as either cast or tech crew then come along to the QMU on Thursday 25th September at 7pm to find out more and audition for principal roles. If you are interested in coming to watch the show, it will be on Sunday 28th September in Qudos at the QMU at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 and can be purchased on the door.
If you can’t make it to Zombie Prom but are still interested in becoming a member of the society, then join us on Thursday 2nd October in the QMU for our first pre audition rehearsal for our February production of “Titanic”. This musical is a beautiful ensemble piece with plenty to do for all involved and we are very excited for rehearsals to start!
If you would like more information about the society or either of our upcoming productions you can contact either our membership co ordinator Julia [membership@ceciliansociety.co.uk] or our secretary Katie [secretary@ceciliansociety.co.uk].
